Elemental Strings is our signature youth orchestra program for string students in 3rd through 5th grades. All participants must have at least 8 months of experience playing their instruments and audition for placement into one of our two orchestras, the intermediate-level Sinfonia or advanced Chamber Orchestra. Both groups offer students the chance to hone their technical skills in small sectional rehearsals, while also gaining valuable experience as orchestral musicians in the large group rehearsals.
One of the most distinct aspects of the program is that the Elemental Strings season culminates with a chamber music unit. After two units of building their technical skills (and confidence!), students are assigned to small groups and perform the final concert without conductor. Over the year, our students polish their posture and sound, develop better intonation, and explore new musical ideas, all while learning how to work together as a team and making friends along the way!
This is a great way to help engage motivated young players who want to play more, and certainly a great way to help prepare them for the wonderful middle school programs in the community!
