Academy Jazz is our middle school jazz band for students in grades 6-8.

In weekly rehearsals, students will delve into the exciting world of jazz through both ensemble playing and improvisation to explore blues, swing, bebop, Latin, Afro-Cuban and contemporary jazz genres. Academy Jazz musicians will deepen their understanding of jazz theory and history, while unlocking their creative potential to develop their own unique improvisational voice throughout the season. Student improvisers of all levels are welcome in the program.

This ensemble is open to middle school wind and rhythm section students on saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, piano, electric guitar, upright or electric bass, and drumset. Previous school jazz band participation is suggested, but not required.

Please email Program Director Peter Senchuk for more information about this ensemble.
