Outstanding Alumni Award Scholarships for Samohi Seniors

At the end of each school year, Elemental Music provides two alumni scholarships to Santa Monica High School Seniors who have demonstrated perseverance and persistence to keep music as a vital part of their lives.

MANY CURRENT SAMOHI STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR PROGRAMS WHEN THEY WERE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, DEVELOPING THE ENSEMBLE SKILLS THAT WOULD BECOME SO VITAL TO THEIR HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC EXPERIENCE.

WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE TWO OUTSTANDING ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS FOR 2022: SOPHIA BURNS AND JASMIN DE PABLO PUGA

Jason Aiello, Director of SAMOHI Orchestras and Co-Director of Elemental Strings, writes this of Sophia:

Sophia Burns has been a violist in the Samohi Symphony for the past three years. In addition to being a wonderful violist, Sophia has been a leader in the orchestra program, serving as Secretary of the Orchestra Student Board this past year. Sophia has such a welcoming personality and has helped build community throughout the orchestras. Sophia has been a active participant in Elemental Music during elementary, middle, and high school. We wish Sophia well as she continues her studies at The College of William & Mary in the fall.

And of Jasmin, he writes:

Jasmin De Pablo Puga was a cellist in the Philharmonic Orchestra this year and has been one of the most improved musicians in the Samohi Orchestra program over the past four years. Though cello can be an extremely competitive instrument Jasmin advanced orchestras every single year, which is a great accomplishment and demonstration of her determination to keep improving. During rehearsals Jasmin listens intently and consistently works to make adjustments to play to the best of her ability. Next fall, she will be attending UC Davis where she plans to study biotechnology.

Congratulations to both Sophia and Jasmin on all of their achievements in music and beyond. We are so proud to call you alumni, and wish you the best of luck as you begin the next chapter of your lives!
