Sherry Luchette

Sherry Luchette is a Los Angeles-based music educator and bassist with over 25 years of elementary and young childhood teaching experience. She currently teaches at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music as an instructor of bass, suzuki group classes, Young Musicians jazz class, and as the director of the adult jazz music theory & combos. She is excited to join the Elemental Music team, serving as the Director of Early Childhood Music. 

Originally from Cleveland, OH, Sherry freelanced as a bassist while teaching general music K-5 in neighboring school districts before moving to Los Angeles. Upon arrival, she was appointed the job of Pre K- 3 music director at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, Ca. 

While at Buckley, Sherry was awarded The Shay Fellowship to pursue her passion for bringing jazz music and improvisation into the general music classroom. Her research and training resulted in the writing of three book/Cd sets titled “The Flying Jazz Kittens” The materials provide music teachers age-appropriate activities and approaches to use in their classrooms and music ensembles. 

Sherry has taught young child and elementary music at a number of schools in the LA area, including the Sherman Oaks Nursery School, Delphi Academy, The Bloom School of Music & Dance, The Westmark School, and the Pasadena Conservatory. 

As a bassist, Sherry has performed with The Rogue Valley Symphony in Ashland, Oregon, and The Pops Symphonic Orchestra of Las Vegas. You can often hear her playing upright and electric bass around LA at various venues, including musicals, shows, and concerts. 

Sherry received her BM in Music Education (Cum Laude) from Youngstown State University, OH and her MM in Music Performance (Bass) from Cleveland State University. She holds certification levels 1-5 in the Suzuki method for bass, Kindermusik levels 1 & 2, Orff-Schulwerk Level 1, Jazz Orff-Schulwerk Level 1, and Babies to Elementary Certificate training with Lynn Kleiner of Music Rhapsody. She has presented over 50 clinics nationally and regionally focusing on training elementary music teachers to include jazz and improvisation activities in their curriculum. Presentations include AOSA, Nafme state and national conventions, The Jazz Education network, and The Suzuki Association of the Americas.
